Hosting
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, with content stored via Cloudflare R2 and Cloudflare D1 (Cloudflare, Inc. and its affiliates). Standard technical server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and access time) are processed automatically for security and operational purposes, and are not personally reviewed. Cloudflare may process data in Switzerland, the European Economic Area, the United States and other countries in which Cloudflare or its service providers operate. Cloudflare states that it uses recognised contractual safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for international data transfers where required.
Contact form
When you use the contact form, the name, email address, subject and message you enter are sent directly to Florian Thalmann's email inbox using Resend (Resend, Inc., a US-based email delivery service), so that a reply can be sent. This information is not stored in the website's own database — it is delivered to and retained in Florian Thalmann's email account for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to the enquiry, maintain relevant correspondence, and fulfil any legal obligations. As Resend is a US company, your message data may be processed in the United States.
The "Order a print, poster or calendar" feature on the Switzerland, Travel, Astro and Analog galleries uses this same contact mechanism — the photos you select, the product type and any calendar assignment are included in the message text sent via Resend, and are not stored separately. Until you send the request, your selection is kept only in your own browser's local storage (keys rawtofinal-print-list-v2 for selected photos and rawtofinal-print-calendar-v2 for calendar assignments); no personal information is stored in these entries, only which photographs were selected. Clearing your browser's local storage removes this selection.
"Like" feature on photographs
If you like a photograph, a random, anonymous identifier is created and stored in your browser's local storage (key rawtofinal-like-visitor-v1). This identifier, together with which photographs you liked, is separately stored in the site's database so your likes are remembered on return visits from the same browser. No name, email address or other personal information is attached to this identifier. Clearing your browser's local storage removes the identifier from your browser, but does not automatically delete the corresponding record already stored in the database; such records may remain until removed during routine maintenance or a reset of the feature.
Old Gear enquiries
Enquiries about items listed under "Old Gear" are handled through the same contact form described above.
Weather forecast (Milky Way calendar)
The Milky Way calendar on the Workshops page displays a weather forecast for a fixed reference location in Switzerland, retrieved from Open-Meteo (using MeteoSwiss ICON-CH2 model data). No personal or visitor-specific data is sent to this service.
Push notifications ("Notify me if it looks good")
The Milky Way calendar lets you opt in to a browser push notification for a specific upcoming date, currently offered as a beta feature. If you enable this, your browser creates a push subscription (an endpoint URL and encryption keys, generated by your browser's own push service — for example Google, Mozilla or Apple, depending on the browser you use) and this subscription, together with the date you selected, is stored in the website's database. No name, email address or other identifying information is collected as part of this feature. This data is used solely to send you a single notification about forecasted conditions for the date you selected, and is deleted automatically afterwards, or if the subscription becomes invalid. A third-party scheduling service, cron-job.org, is used to trigger this check once daily by calling a website address, authenticated with a private access key sent in a request header (not included in the URL); cron-job.org does not receive or process any visitor or subscription data. As this feature is in a beta/testing phase, you may encounter occasional errors — feedback is welcome via florian.thalmann@gmail.com.
Embedded videos (Streamable)
Some pages include videos hosted on Streamable, embedded directly in the page. When a page containing an embedded Streamable video is opened (or scrolled to), content from Streamable may load automatically, and technical data such as your IP address may be transmitted to Streamable, according to Streamable's own privacy policy.
Embedded videos (YouTube)
Some pages (Travel, Van Journey) show a YouTube video preview. Unlike the Streamable embeds above, no content is loaded from YouTube until you actively press play — only then does a YouTube player load and technical data may be transmitted to YouTube (Google LLC), according to Google's privacy policy.
Affiliate links (Amazon)
Links marked "Buy ↗" on the Gear page are Amazon.de PartnerNet affiliate links. When you follow one, you leave RAWtoFINAL, and Amazon may process technical data and use cookies or similar technologies on its own website, according to Amazon's own privacy notice. Florian Thalmann may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Other external links
Links to Xiaohongshu, Buy Me a Coffee and Sun Surveyor take you to third-party websites with their own, separate privacy policies.
Website analytics
This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand overall visits and page views. It is designed by Cloudflare to be privacy-first: it does not use cookies or other persistent identifiers, does not track individual visitors across visits or across other websites, and does not build individual visitor profiles or use fingerprinting. It provides aggregated statistics such as page views, visit counts, approximate country, referring website, browser/device type, and page-load performance — nothing that identifies you personally. No advertising or cross-site tracking services are used on this website.
Your rights
Under the Swiss FADP, you may request information about, correction of, or deletion of personal data held about you, and object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact florian.thalmann@gmail.com.
Retention
Contact form messages are not stored in the website's own database, but are retained in Florian Thalmann's email account as described above. "Like" identifiers remain in your browser until you clear your local storage; the corresponding database records may persist separately until removed during routine maintenance. Technical server logs are retained only as long as operationally necessary.
Children
This website is not specifically directed at children. Workshop participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, as described in the Terms & Conditions.
